
Men's Soccer Falls to Marquette

Milwaukee, Wis. - The Marquette men?s soccer team (5-6, 3-2 C-USA) got off to quick start and played solid defense to defeat the Cardinals (2-10-2, 0-3-1 C-USA) 2-0 on Tuesday night in Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the third minute. Senior forward Eric Marshall took the ball down the far touch line and fed a ball to the corner toward midfielder Mike Robards who played it to the center of the net. Junior forward Derek Gutierrez took the perfect cross and one-timed it from 10 yards out to give Marquette a 1-0 advantage
Then in the sixth minute of play, Marshall went to the near touch line and played to the corner for junior forward Matt Darby. Darby played it eight yards in front of the net, where junior midfielder Tony Walby headed home for the quick 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals had their chances but Marquette keeper Adam Ubert made two key saves late in the match to preserve the shutout, his second of the season. Simon Bird and Jelani Grant led the Cardinal attack, each with three shots and one on goal.
The Cardinals will continue the four game road stretch at Memphis on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
