
Women's Basketball Takes Care of UAB

Louisville, Ky. - Louisville used 65.4 percent shooting in the second half to defeat UAB 68-53 Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall. Junior Sabrina Minter knotched her second consecutive with double-figures to lead the Cardinals with 11 points. Chantell Thomas of UAB led all scorers with 13 points.
The Cardinal defense held UAB to 31 percent shooting from the floor and forced 16 turnovers.
The Cardinals held the lead for the entire second half with their largest lead being a 23-point advantage at 62-39 with 4:23 remaining to play in the game. UAB cut the deficit to 28-24 with 18:21 remaining to play in the game but would never get any closer.
Both teams had cold shooting in the first half. UAB shot 23.1 percent from the floor in the first frame and the Cardinals shot 28.1 percent from the field. The score was tied at 12 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. The Cardinals then went on a 7-0 run sparked by Nina Simotes' three-pointer. Louisville led 26-19 at the break.
The Cardinals will head to the road to take on Southern Miss Friday, Feb. 1 at 8:00 p.m.
