Women's Tennis Loses Doubleheader

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Competing with only four healthy players, the University of Louisville women's tennis team opened up the fall season with a 7-0 loss to Evansville and a 6-1 loss to Indiana State Saturday at Evansville.

In the Evansville match, Louisville's Julie Penn and Kelly Kiehna combined to bead Brandee Fox and Brooke Hoener 8-6 at the top seed. Evansville's Bambi McCann and Jessica Jetton defeated Paige Eber and Mariana Torres 8-6. With Louisville's default at No. 3, Evansville took the doubles point.

In singles, Evansville's McCann was up 7-6, 5-3 at the top seed when Louisville's Penn retired. Evansville also won at Nos. 2 and 4. The Cards' only singles point came from Eber, who defeated Jessica Tessier 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 3.

Against Indiana State, Penn and Kiehna fell to Carolina Salinas and Jen Earl 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and Logan Becker combined with Magda Narzewska to defeat Torres and Eber 8-3 at No. 2.

Indiana State swept the singles matches.

Louisville will begin fall tournament play at South Carolina on Friday, Sept. 28
