CardsCARE Volunteer Opportunities - SPAVA
August 07, 2001 | General
SPAVA is the Society for the Prevention of Aggressiveness and Violence among Adolescents. The SPAVA mission is to create a nonviolent society by being role models for the younger generation, particularly in Kentucky. As a student-athlete, you have the opportunity to serve as a positive role model to many children in this organization. We get requests throughout the year for CardsCARE student-athletes to speak at various schools throughout the community.
SPAVA Objectives are to:
- Demonstrate the value of hard work and the joy it generates
- Teach values of "Giving and Sharing"
- Teach techniques of anger control
- Teach strategies in the "art" of negotiating
- Teach and demonstrate how to take advantage of controlled aggression
- Empower students in the "art" of nonviolent self-advocacy and mediation skills
- Assist in "Change of Heart"
