CardsCARE Volunteer Opportunities - Big Brothers Big Sisters
August 06, 2001 | General
This program allows you to `adopt' a little brother or sister and serve as their mentor. CardsCARE is in partnership with the Sports Buddies Program, which is geared toward, but not limited to, sports related activities. The sports buddies program asks you, as a big brother or big sister, to devote at least two days a month for only four months. The "SPORTS BUDDIES" program will offer sports-related activities once a month that you are able to attend. As a Sports Buddies match, the activities you can do together are limitless.
YOU CAN:
- Attend a U of L sporting event
- Throw a ball around
- Work out in a fitness program
- Learn a new sport
- Fly a kite
- Play in Cardinal Park
As a student-athlete at the University of Louisville, you have the opportunity to offer your little brother or little sister a great deal through this program. It is necessary to go through an application process that includes orientation, criminal check and a home interview to ensure the best interest of the child.
The children are from single-parent homes and have contact with the absent parent less than twice a month. There are a wide variety of children from various economic backgrounds, races and religions. You can make a difference in a child's life by being their big brother or big sister.
