NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Weekly reports are requested for all new and transfer student-athletes beginning early May. The report contains an alphabetical listing of all incoming student-athletes, sorted by sport and other important information such as high school GPA, ACT/SAT scores, etc.
Athletic Academic Counselors send a letter of introduction to each of his/her advisees, informing them of procedures for enrolling, student orientation programs and other pertinent information.
General Freshman Orientation -- Student-athletes may attend one of the freshman orientation sessions for the general student population conducted by the University during the summer. Student-athletes are scheduled to meet with their assigned Athletic Academic Counselor during this program to discuss class schedules, major choices, general requirements, etc. Student-athletes will pre-register for classes during orientation. Placement exams for verbal and mathematical skills will be administered during orientation.
Freshmen Athlete Orientation -- This program is held on Sunday prior to the beginning of fall classes. All incoming athletes are required to attend. Topics covered include:
- Staff introductions
- Explanation of services provided by Olga S. Peers Academic Center for Student Athletes
- Tutoring Program
- Explanation of Progress Reports
- Explanation of eligibility issues including satisfactory progress toward degree, 75/25 Rule, grade point average, probation and dismissal.
- Administration and explanation of the Personality/Mosaic Inventory
- Explanation of a course syllabus
- Drug Education Course
- Study Hall Program
- Textbook Loan Program Procedures
Team Meetings -- Athletic Academic Counselors meet with all of their teams at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to review policies and procedures. A sample of a team meeting agenda is as follows:
