DePaul Tops Women's Tennis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell to Conference USA rival DePaul 6-1 on Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Blue Demons notched the doubles point at the team of Laura Taylor and Szilvia Kelemen defeated Louisville's Katie McLaughlin and Julie Penn 8-4 at No. 1. Stephanie Matko and Rachel Dybas defeated Melisa San Martin and Julie Penn 8-3 at the two-seed and Kadi Hilpus and Natalie Matko combined to beat Paige Eber and Mariana Torres 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles action, senior Kelly Whitler scored U of L's only point with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Stephanie Matko at the three-spot. DePaul's Taylor defeated McLaughin 6-3, 6-0 at the top seed, while Kelemen outlasted Penn 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Louisville's Eber fell to Hilpus 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Kelly Kiehna lost to Natalie Matko 6-1, 6-1 at the five-seed and the Blue Demons' Dybas edged Torres 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6. DePaul improves to 14-11.
"We played well against a strong team," said U of L head coach Meg Peavy. "Hopefully this will give us some momentum as we head into the Conference USA tournament."
The Cards (5-18, 0-4 C-USA) will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. next week for the Conference USA Championship hosted by Southern Miss.
