Normal, Ill. - Louisville used a 20-6 run midway through the second half to defeat Illinois State 72-58 in Redbird Arena on Tuesday night. Junior center Tiana Ford led the Cardinals with 18 points and Katie Donovan led the Redbirds with 15 points.
"We did not come out focused in the second half," said head coach Martin Clapp. "We took advantage of our size in the second half. We have to get a lot better defensively for the better teams coming up on our schedule. I was proud of the way they played the second half."
With just over nine minutes remaining Ford sparked the 20-6 run with 10 points. Marju Sober finished the game with 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior transfer Amanda Wolke led the Cards on the boards with nine rebounds.
After shooting just 31.7 percent in the first half, the Cards shot 40 percent in the second.
The Cardinals will host Western Kentucky on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
