Ball State Defeats Central Michigan 1-0 in Game One

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ball State defeated Central Michigan 1-0 in the opening game of the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Championship at Trager Stadium.
The fifth-seeded Ball State Cardinals broke a scoreless tie when Allison Haynes scored off of a cross from Afton Hess with 3:10 remaining in the first half.
The Cardinals withstood Central Michigan's eight shots and five penalty corners in the second half to preserve the 1-0 lead and advance to the semifinal game against top-seeded Ohio University on Saturday at noon.
Ball State's goalkeeper Susan McDowell collected six saves in the shutout, while Central Michigan's Janel Spero had four stops for the Chippewas.
Ball State outshot Central Michigan 11-10, while the Chippewas held a 12-7 penalty corner advantage.
The Cardinals improve to 6-12. The Chippewas fall to 7-11 on the season.
