
Three Field Hockey Players Earned Regional All-American Honors

Three University of Louisville field hockey players: Pip Sanders, Christy Hershey and Olivia Netzler earned STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Regional All-American honors. Sanders and Hershey were named to the first team, while Netzler was named to the second team. Both Sanders and Hershey are eligible for All-American selection.
Sanders, a junior midfielder from New South Wales, Australia earned All-Mid-American Conference first team and All-Tournament honors this year. She led U of L and was second in the league in assists with 13. She also finished the season with six goals for a total of 25 points. Sanders was named MAC Player of the Week on Sept. 11. She earned STX/NFHCA All-American West Region first team honors last season.
Hershey, a sophomore goalkeeper from Palmyra, Pa. was a first team All-MAC selection and a member of the STX/NFCHA All-American West Region second team last year. This season, Hershey led the conference with her 1.07 goals against average and eight shutouts. She also finished the season ranked eighth in the nation in that category.
Netzler, a sophomore forward from New South Wales, Australia, was also named to the All-MAC first team. She led the Cardinals in goals with 14 and was second on the team in assists with 11 for a point total of 39. She finished the season tied for fourth in the nation in points. Netzler was named MAC Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
"I'm really thrilled to have our student-athletes get that kind of recognition" said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Our region had a very strong showing this year and for us to have three players on the first and second team says a lot for our program."
The Cardinals (16-5, 7-3 MAC) finished the year at No. 14 in the NFHCA and NCAA rankings after spending the entire season in the top 20. They were ranked as high as sixth in the NCAA poll and seventh in the NFHCA poll.
