Bowling Green, Ky. - Louisville newcomer Simon Bird scored two goals in the Cardinals' 2-0 victory over Western Kentucky tonight in Bowling Green. The Cards improve to 3-4-1 on the season.
Bird struck first in the 25th minute on a pass from Nathan Stevens. The Cardinal defense held the Hilltoppers the rest of the half, giving the Cards the 1-0 advantage at the break.
WKU (4-3) came out of the intermission and controled the ball for most of the second half, but was unable to net a goal. Bird then put the match out of reach in the 77th minute when his shot at the top of the net went passed the outstretched hands of Hilltopper goalkeeper Daryl Sattler, putting the Cards up 2-0.
Senior keeper Jeremy Morales collected six saves on the evening, collecting his second shutout of the season. Bird had three shots in the match, converting on two. He leads the team in goals with five goals on the season.
The Cards will be in action again this weekend against Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
