LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville has introduced an enhanced athletic mark and partnered with a leading national company to produce its official athletic web site.
"A group representing all parts of the University has been working for the past eight months on a look that would not only preserve the heritage and traditions associated with our current mark, but one that would also reflect the energy and excitement around UofL athletics and the campus," said Mike Mangeot, U of L Associate Athletic Director of Advancement. "What has emerged is a visual symbol in which Cardinal fans will take pride."
The new look Cardinal was produced by SME Power Branding of New York, the nation's premier sports-oriented brand marketing firm. The mark includes some cosmetic changes to the Cardinal bird head, extending a broad, swooping wing with the head and incorporating a new stylized font. A "Cardinal" version of an old English "L" is included in the mark.
U of L's athletics teams have been known as the Cardinals since 1913. The Cardinal was chosen to give U of L statewide identity, as the Cardinal is the state bird of Kentucky. In printing terms, the red in the Cardinal mark is PMS 485 while the yellow beak is PMS 130.
Questions regarding usage of the trademarked logo should be directed to the Office of Trademark and Merchandising Services at (502) 852-1798 or 852-8863.
