Cards Win Louisville Men's Tennis Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team won the second annual Louisville Tennis Invitational Tournament on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, by winning the "A" and "B" doubles divisions and placing second in "A" singles.
The doubles team of Cody Conley and Paulo Carvalho defeated Richard Magner and Alistair Todd of Memphis 8-6 in the finals to claim the "A" doubles division title, while Alex Sivertsen and Brent McCombe defeated Michael Lahaie and Jack Hu of Memphis 9-8 (7-5) to win the "B" doubles.
"I am ecstatic about our doubles play," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Last year we struggled in that area, but it will be a strongpoint this year. Cody and Paulo are freshmen, and Alex and Brent are only sophomores. We have a lot to look forward to."
In singles action, Tvrtko Kujundzic defeated Magney of Memphis in the semi-finals 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), while Daniel Klemetz of Middle Tennessee State defeated Jorge Morales of Toledo 7-6(5), 6-3 to set up the final match. In that match, Klemetz defeated Kujundzic 6-4, 6-3 to win the "A" singles division.
U of L's McCombe advanced to the semi-finals of the "B" singles division, before losing 7-5, 6-1 to Middle Tennessee's Dipesh Rao, the eventual winner. In the "B" singles finals, Rao won over Joey Balsiger of Indiana 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1.
"We accomplished our goal of winning the Louisville Tennis Invitational Tournament," said Ecarma. "Finishing ahead of such quality teams as Middle Tennessee, Memphis, Kentucky, Ohio State, Indiana, and Morehead is satisfying. I am especially gratified by the development of Tvrtko Kujundzic as a player and a leader."
In Flight "C" singles, David Miltenberger of Belmont outlasted Chris Crawford of Southern Indiana 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to take the "C" division title.
