Cardinals Sweep Morehead State In Softball

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team swept Morehead State by scores of 8-0 in both games on Wednesday at Morehead.
In the first game of the day, the Cards had seven hits, stole five bases and capitalized on five Morehead errors to score eight runs. The game ended after five innings with the eight-run rule.
Offensively for Louisville, Keola Calderon went two for three with three runs scored and two RBI. Coleen Coughlin, Val Smith, Melissa Jacobo, Christina Soto and Candi Padilla each added a hit for U of L.
Louisville starter Jessica Rak (16-11) pitched the complete game shutout allowing two hits and striking out eight.
In the second game of the double header, Louisville put up a five-spot in the third inning, added two in the fifth and one in the seventh for an 8-0 win over the Eagles.
Padilla went three for four with a run scored and an RBI, Melissa Jacobo went two for four with a triple, a run scored and two RBI, and Amy Pickering went two for three with a run scored and an RBI. Smith, Calderon, and Nicole Sparks also contributed to Louisville's 10 hits.
U of L starter Mandy Rockwell (6-4) threw the complete game shutout allowing two hits in seven innings and striking out 11.
Louisville (32-22) will play host to Tennessee Tech (36-30) on Thursday, May 4 at Ulmer Stadium in the final home game of the season.
