"We are already showing results from our experiences last week in the losses to Minnesota and Middle Tennessee," said U of L assistant coach Mark Beckham. "The matches were close, but we came out on top this time. It's good to see improvement in a short amount of time. Progress is the main thing."
In the match against Dayton, Louisville swept the doubles points as Kujundzic and Lien defeated Jeff Keckley and D.J. Gebhart 8-4 at the top seed. Oliver Cantrell filled in for the injured Sivertsen at No. 2 and combined with McCombe to defeat Brad Nykiel and Chris Wartman 8-0. Schutzman and Foley defeated Michael Schissler 8-4 at the three spot.
Louisville swept the singles points as Kujundzic, Lien, Carvalho, McCombe, Blaskovic and Foley won in straight sets.
"With these wins and the win over No. 49 East Tennessee State, we've got a lot of momentum going into the Michigan State match," said Beckham. "We're playing everyone on our roster and they are all winning. I've been talking about depth all season and we believe that can take us up the national rankings in the course of a long grueling season. We have half of our 'regular starters' out and we're still winning at those spots. We're young, hungry and ambitious."
U of L (6-2) travels to Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State on Feb. 19. They return to play host to No. 8 SMU on Feb. 22 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
