LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville took advantage of four errors by UNC Charlotte to complete the three-game sweep with a 4-1 win over the 49ers Sunday in Conference USA softball action at Ulmer Stadium.
Starting UNC Charlotte pitcher did not get much support as she pitched six innings and gave up only two hits. She allowed four runs, none earned, and walked only two.
"We'll take them how we get them," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall of the win. "We were hitting the ball hard, just at people and that caused some errors and we were able to take advantage."
The win boosts U of L to a 29-21 season record and evens its C-USA mark at 7-7. UNC Charlotte falls to 10-36, 1-13 in the league.
The 49ers scored first when Lindsey Houghton doubled and then scored on a single by Susan Coyle.
"I was worried when they scored early but when we answered with three runs in the bottom of the same inning, I relaxed," said Pearsall.
In the Louisville third, the Cardinals scored three runs after two players reached on an error and another was hit by a pitch. One run scored on an error and then Amy Pickering hit a triple for two RBI.
The 49ers were led by Houghton who went two for three and scored the only run. The Cardinals play Tuesday at IUPUI.
