Calderon Leads Softball To Sweep Of UNC Charlotte

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Rightfielder Keola Calderon went 5-for-7 to help the University of Louisville to a two-game sweep of UNC Charlotte in Conference USA softball action Saturday at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cardinals won 5-2 and 8-0 to improve their conference mark to 6-7 and 28-21 overall. The 49ers fall to 1-12 in league play and 10-35 overall.
"Every game coming down the stretch is important, especially winning the home games," said U of L Sandy Pearsall. "Keola has been coming to the ballpark ready to play and it shows at the plate."
In the first game, Calderon smacked a pair of triples and had four RBI. Leading 4-0 going into the fifth inning, Louisville pitcher Jessica Rak gave up three straight singles to load the bases and then walked a run in. An RBI single by Sara Swilling scored Susan Coyle sbefore Rak retired the side by striking out Stephanie Dunlap.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the sixth.
In the second game, Louisville jumped on starter Amy Morse scattering eight hits including doubles by Amy Pickering and Melissa Jacobo. The Cardinals were able to use the eight-run rule to end the game after five innings.
Louisville pitcher Mandy Rockwell pitched five innings and gave up three hits and struck out five to even her record to 4-4.
The two teams match up Sunday at noon at Ulmer Stadium.
