Women's Tennis Defeats Xavier, Western Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Xavier University 8-1 and Western Kentucky 8-1 in a double header on Thursday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

In the match against Xavier, Louisville's Kelly-Marie Miller, Kelly Ford, Katie McLaughlin, Kelly Whitler, Melisa San Martin and Beckett Hoyt each won their singles matches in straight sets at Nos. 1-6 respectively.

Louisville's Miller and Ford defeated Xavier's Emily Senich and Julie Roth at No. 1 doubles, while McLaughlin and Whitler picked up another doubles point for the Cards as they defeated Kristin Wolf and Katy Wiles 8-5 at the No. 2 spot. Beth Abraham and Tracie Fraunfelder picked up Xavier's only point with an 8-6 win over Hoyt and San Martin at No. 3 doubles.

In the match against Western Kentucky, Louisville's Kelly Ford, Katie McLaughlin, Kelly Whitler, Melisa San Martin and Beckett Hoyt picked up singles points by winning at Nos. 2-6 respectively. Western Kentucky's Therese Johansson defeated Kelly-Marie Miller 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the top seed for the Hilltoppers' only point.

The Cardinals swept the doubles as Miller and Ford defeated Johansson and Jennifer Granger 8-1 at No. 1, McLaughlin and Whitler defeated Liene Rozentale and Dinah Townsend 8-3 at No.2 and Melissa Farmer and Kelly Kiehna defeated Jennifer Holland and Amanda Cummins 8-2 at No. 3.

Louisville (12-6) will play host to Conference USA rival Cincinnati on April 5 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 3:00.
