Cards Defeat Tennessee Tech In Women's Tennis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team opened up the spring season with a 6-3 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
In singles action, Louisville's Kelly-Marie Miller took Lupita Hernandez to three sets before falling 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the top seed. Katie McLaughlin, Kelly Ford, Kelly Whitler and Melisa San Martin each won in straight sets for the Cards at Nos. 2-5 respectively. At the six spot, Tennessee Tech's Carolina Melicoff defeated Louisville's Kelly Kiehna 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles, Tech's No. 1 team of Hernandez and Delucca defeated Miller and Ford 8-3, while Louisville's McLaughlin and San Martin beat Anastassia Mirnova and Anita Obando 8-6 at No. 2. The Cards' Kelly Whitler and Kiehna closed out the doubles by defeating Melicoff and Carey Lay 8-1 at No. 3.
"Overall, we beat a solid team," said U of L head coach Meg Peavy. "It was a good first day that was anticipated, expected and delivered."
On Friday, Jan. 28 at 10:00 a.m., Louisville will play host to Kentucky, who is No. 22 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
