Cardinal Softball Splits At Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated the University of Kentucky 2-0 in the first game of a double header, and lost 3-0 in the second game on Wednesday at the University of Kentucky.
In the first game, Louisville pitcher Jessica Rak (12-4) threw her fourth shutout of the season as the Cards scored two in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. Coleen Coughlin led off the inning with a base hit, stole second, moved to third when Nicole Sparks grounded out and scored on Keola Calderon's single. Calderon scored on Melissa Jacobo's double.
Offensively for the Cards, Calderon went two for three with the game-winning RBI and a run scored. Coughlin went two for three with one run scored.
In the second game of the night, the Wildcats broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Leslie Kwiatkowski walked to reach first, moved to second on Tiffany Kruse's sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a Louisville error to give Kentucky a 1-0 lead.
UK added two insurance runs in the bottom on the sixth.
Tara McClure (10-4) took the loss giving up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits and striking out eight.
Offensively the Cards were led by Coughlin who went four for four. Candi Padilla went two for three.
Louisville (24-11, 3-0) will play host to Southern Mississippi on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
