LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Melissa Jacobo went 4-for-5 to help the University of Louisville softball team sweep Elon College in a doubleheader Thursday at Ulmer Stadium.
"Jacobo is seeing the ball so well right now, and hitting with some power," said head coach Sandy Pearsall. "It is good to have some hot bats going into conference play this weekend."
The Cardinals pounded out 10 hits including four doubles in the first game to win 7-1. Jacobo was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double. Pitcher Tara McClure struck out eight and allowed just one run to improve her record to 8-3.
In the second game, Louisville jumped on starter Shannon Courtney and put up an eight-run second inning. Elon, threatened by the eight run rule, put up a five-run inning in the fifth and then added another in the sixth. However, the rally fell short when starting pitcher Jessica Rak re-entered and finished out the game as the Cards hung for the 8-6 win.
"We had a little lapse of concentration in the second game, but they still took care of business for the win," said Pearsall.
The Cardinals (20-10) open Conference USA action on Saturday with a doubleheader at UAB.
