Cardinals Win Three On First Day Of ECU Softball Tournament

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Canisius, Campbell University and Morgan State to go 3-0 on the first day of the East Carolina Softball Tournament.
In the first game, Louisville pitcher Tara McClure (3-1) threw a shutout as Louisville beat Canisius 3-0. Val Smith, Amy Pickering and Kim Hilpp scored for the Cards and Candi Padilla hit the softball program's first triple as Louisville recorded seven hits.
In the game against Campbell, Louisville pitcher Jessica Rak also threw a shutout as the Cards won 7-0. Coleen Coughlin went two for three with a double and a run scored, Pickering went two for four with a run scored and an RBI.
The Cards finished the day with a 3-1 win over Morgan State. In that game Smith went two for three and Pickering recorded a triple. Rak picked up the win and improved her record to 5-1.
"We're happy to pick up three more wins," said U of L coach Sandy Pearsall. "We played well defensively and hit the ball in the first two games."
