Women's Basketball Falls In Battle Of Bluegrass 75-65

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Louisville women's basketball team lost a tough 75-65 game to Kentucky on Tuesday in Lexington in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass. UK extended its home win streak against the Cardinals to 12, having not lost to Louisville at home in 21 years.
Kentucky jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first half before foul trouble began to plague the Cats. Louisville (16-11) nailed a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw line in the first half to tie the score at 40 at the intermission. Senior All-America Candidate Jill Morton scored 20 points in the first 25 minutes of the game, but was held to two points over the last 15 minutes.
UK out-rebounded U of L 18-8 over the last 10:30 as the Wildcats pulled away for the victory.
Morton finished with 22 points, including 12-of-12 from the free throw line, to lead the Cards. Alison Bass added 13 points and Jenny Knight had 10 in the losing effort.
Sophomore LaTonya McDole led UK with her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 18 points and a career-tying 14 boards. Shantia Owens, who also scored 18 points on the night, added 12 boards for her sixth season and eighth career double-double.
