INDIANAPOLIS - Visiting Louisville moved its record to 6-3 on Tuesday night by posting an 82-50 win over Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The loss was Butler's fifth straight overall, and its third consecutive defeat at home. The Bulldogs are now 3-6 on the year.
Louisville jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game, and extended its lead to as many as 26 in the first half. The Cardinals, who own the NCAA record for consecutive games with a three-point field goal, more than extended that streak. Louisville hit 6-of-8 long-range shots in the first half, led by senior Jill Morton (Greensburg, Ind.), who hit three treys in the first half alone.
The Cardinals extended their 47-25 halftime lead throughout the second half, leading by 33 points at one point in the middle of the second stanza.
Sophomore Kara Kessans (Tell City, Ind.) led the Cardinals with 15 points, while Morton and senior Alison Bass (Mt. Washington, Ky.) each chipped in with 14. Louisville shots 54% (32-59) from the field for the game, and hit at an exceptional 64% (7-11) accuracy from three-point range.
Butler was held to 29% (17-59) shooting for the game, its second-lowest effort of the season. Junior Valerie Burg (Stronghurst, Ill.) led all scorers with her 16 points, while sophomore Kristen Bodine (Martinsville, Ind.) had 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Junior Julie Schrader (Monticello, Ind.) had 10 points and nine rebounds as well.
Louisville hosts Western Illinois in their own Seelbach Hilton-Holiday Classic on Dec. 28.
