LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Lady Cards fell 68-65 to the Reebok Lady All-Stars Thursday night in Cardinal Arena.
The Lady Cards led the whole game until the Lady Stars took a two point lead at the 5:13 mark off a jump shot by Robin Threatt. Jill Morton connected on two free throws to tie it at 58, but the Lady Stars took the lead for good after a Char Thomsen jumper with 4:32 remaining.
A jumper from Morton got the Lady Cards within one at the 40 second mark (65-66). Threatt connected on two from the line with 14 seconds left to put the Lady Stars up by three. A turnaround jumper by Alison Bass fell short at the buzzer.
"I think tonight was a good test for us," said co-head coach Sara White. "I think they really played hard and physical and I don't think we were ready for that. I feel like we got outhustled a little bit. I am pleased with our overall performance andI think we did a lot of things well. We just have to settle down and figure out which combinations work best together on the floor. I am proud of our players' effort and I look forward to the start of the regular season."
Morton led the Lady Cards with 19 points. Freshman Shanta Bowens led the Lady Cards on the boards with 10 rebounds and Jenny Knight dished out seven assists. Threatt, a former Wisconsin guard, led the Lady Stars with 22 points and Jamie Redd, from Washington, led with 10 rebounds.
The Lady Cards will tip off the regular season on Nov. 20 against UNC Asheville in Freedom Hall at 8:00 p.m.
