MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat visiting Louisville 61-58 in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The Cardinals broke open a tie game with a 12-1 run to take a 38-27 lead with 15:35 left in the game, but Memphis battled back and took the lead for good with just under five minutes to play. Louisville had one last opportunity after a pair of missed Tiger free throws, but a three-point shot by Alison Bass in the final seconds failed to go in as the Cards' five-game winning streak came to an end.
Jill Morton, who sat out most of the first half after picking up two quick fouls, led Louisville with 15 points, the only Cardinal in double figures. U of L held a 41-25 advantage on the boards, including 24 offensive rebounds, but Memphis made 38 trips to the free throw line to the Cards' 15.
The Cardinals (13-7, 6-3 C-USA) travel to Charlotte, N.C., Saturday to take on UNC Charlotte. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Network, with tip-off set for noon.
