
Softball Signs Five Players

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five high school softball players have signed National Letters-of-Intent to continue their playing careers at the University of Louisville.
Sara Bausher (Las Vegas, Nev.), Lisa Estes (Ramona, Calif.), Krystle Herold (Wildomar, Calif.), Kimberly Miller (Yorba Linda, Calif.), and Aja Sherman (Las Vegas, Nev.) will join the Cardinal softball program next fall.
Bausher, an outfielder/shortstop, comes from Nevada State High School Champion Bonanza High School where she earned the Sunset Region's Most Valuable Player award in 2000 and All-Southern Conference honors in 1999. She also plays for the Firecrackers Gold travel ball club, one of the country's top gold teams.
"Sara is an all-around athlete," said Louisville head coach Sandy Pearsall. "She plays hard, has a great work ethic and will be an impact player in college."
Estes, a catcher/outfielder plays at Ramona High School where she earned several awards including Best Defense Award and First Team All League. She was a captain of the League Champion team. Estes plays for American Pastime Gold travel ball club which finished seventh in the country at the Gold Nationals.
"Lisa is a teammate of Krystle's and currently catches for her on American Pastime Gold," said Pearsall. "She is also capable of playing in the outfield and will continue to help us by adding depth to the team."
Herold will join the pitching staff. The right-hander plays for the Elsinore High School team, where she was named the League's Most Valuable Player, First Team All-League and the California Interscholastic Federation All-Tournament team. Her high school team won the league championship in 1999. Herold plays for American Pastime Gold travel ball club, which finished seventh in the country in the Gold Nationals.
"Krystle is a very experienced pitcher," said Pearsall. "She will come and make her presence known in our program."
Miller, an outfielder from Valencia High School earned All-League honors and the Most Valuable Player award. She plays for the Valencia Choppers Gold travel team which finished 13th at the Gold Nationals.
"Kim has great speed and the ability to get on base," said Pearsall. "She will contribute immensely to our outfield."
Sherman is a right-handed pitcher/first baseman. She comes from Durango High School, where she was named All-Sunset Region Most Valuable Pitcher, Nevada All-State Team Honorable Mention and first team All-Sunset Region.
"Aja is a hard-throwing pitcher, who also plays first base and will continue to add to our arsenal," said Pearsall. "She is also a strong hitter who will show power in the future."
The U of L softball program is entering its second season. Last year, the Cardinals finished with a 36-26 record and a Conference USA record of 8-8.
