St. Louis, Mo. - The University of Louisville women's cross country team finished sixth and the men finished eighth in the Conference USA Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at Forest Park in St. Louis. Marquette claimed the women's title while South Florida claimed the men's title.
On the women's side, senior Kim Shore led the Cardinals with a time of 23:12.63, good for a 26th-place finish. Alicia Cavender was the next best finisher with a time of 23:21.62 (30th). Thresa Maru of Tulane won the 6,000 meter run with a time of 21:06.93.
"I can't be anything but pleased," said U of L head coach Gene Weis. "Our women ran maybe their best race of the year. We went in ranked in the bottom half of the conference and finished in the top half. Coach (Bettina) Bard deserves a lot of credit."
On the men's side, Mark Biros placed 18th with a time of 25:45.32 in the 8,000 meter run. Solomon Kandie of Tulane won the event with a time of 24:32.53.
"On the men's side, Mark Biros just missed all-conference (top-15) and ran maybe his best race of the year," said Weis. "He ran a good time on a very demanding course. I was very proud of the entire team. It was definitely our best race of the season."
