Women's Golf Drops to Ninth at Beacon Woods

The University of Louisville women's golf team dropped to ninth at the Beacon Woods Invitational shooting a 318, 322 (640). The University of South Florida women's golf team maintained its lead after two rounds of the tournament in Bayonet Point, Fla., but UCF and UAB promise to make Sunday's final round a battle to the end.
USF and UAB shot second round 301s, the best team score of Saturday'ssecond round, and USF now holds a two-stroke advantage over UCF, who shot 302 today, and a six-shot lead over fellow Conference USA member UAB. USF is attempting to defend its 1999 Beacon Woods Championship. Louisville is at 640 led by Morgan Hapney's (79, 79,158).
The battle for medalist honors is every bit as competitive with three golfers tied at three-over par 147, including Kelly Lagedrost of USF, Heather Lourieof UAB and Michelle Simpson of Florida International. Lagedrost, who finished third in last year's Beacon Woods, appeared ready to make a run when she birdied the 10th hole, and left her approach shots on 11 and 12 just three feet from the pin. She would miss both opportunities and then double bogey 15 for a two-over par 74 on the day.
