Women's Golf Seventh After First Round at Beacon Hill

(Oct. 13, 2000) -- At the Beacon Woods Women's Golf Invitational in Bayonet Point, Fla., host University of South Florida took a first round lead with a 309, but five schools are within three shots of the Bulls. Louisville is nine strokes off the lead with a 318. Memphis and Miami are tied for third with a 311, while Georgia State andFlorida International are another shot back at 312. Likewise, the individual race is just as competitive. Four golfers, including USF senior Kelly Lagedrost are tied at the top with a first round, one-over par 73. Florida International's Michelle Simpson and Ellen Dunne join Lagedrost, as does Meaghan Francella of Memphis. Louisville is led by Freshman Kansas Gooden shot a 77, four strokes off the leader. The second round of play will take place Saturday, with a final 18 holes scheduled for Sunday at the Beacon Woods Golf Club.
