- Induction:
- 1982
- Class:
- 1953
James Williams was a Coach Frank Camp product who played fullback for the Cardinals for three season beginning in 1950. Tagged with a number of nicknames such as “Boom-Boom” and the “Sweet Somerset Bulldozer,” Williams was a big and tough man who ran like a halfback with the power of a fullback. Although statistics are not available for 1952, his senior season, he was the team’s leading rusher in both 1950 and 1951 gaining 693 and 642 yards respectively. He averaged just over five yards per carry in those two seasons. “Jim might have been one of the best running fullbacks that we’ve ever had at UofL,” Camp said. “He was real stocky and ran our trap plays as well as anybody has ever done.”
