Season Capsules

2025 - 5-7-5 (1-5-2 ACC)

This season saw the Cardinals appear in their 12th all-time ACC Championship. Goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff was named to the United Soccer Coaches Men’s All-Region Third Team, after being in goal for every minute of the season recording seven shutouts and 53 saves. UofL had a historic run, beginning the season with five straight shutouts. The defensive start to 2025 was unrivaled in program history, including a 1-0 shutout against No. 1 Stanford to start the ACC slate. The Cardinals opened with an offensive record breaking 6-0 victory against USI; they did not allow a single shot in the game. Noah De Blasis earned TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honors in September. Louisville had six players recognized on the CSC Academic All-District Teams (Noah De Blasis, TJ Kahoalii, Michael Lee, Olayinka Ogunleye, Alex Svetanoff and Chase Vazquez) which is the maximum number of players a team can have. Louisville’s defender Olayinka Ogunleye was selected with the 66th overall pick by FC Dallas in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, John Michael Hayden’s eighth player to be drafted.

2024 - 6-7-4 (0-5-3 ACC)

Gage Guerra and Josh Jones, Louisville's two senior captains, were each voted to the All-ACC third team. The Cardinals have had multiple players earn All-ACC honors in all but one year since joining the conference in 2014. The 2024 campaign saw Jones start and play in 15 of 17 matches, finishing second on the team in minutes played and tying for second with three goals. Jones closed out his four-year Louisville career with 69 career matches played, 11 goals, five assists and 27 points in just shy of 6,000 minutes on the pitch. Guerra, the senior forward led the Cardinals with nine goals and 21 points this fall. The nine goals were tied for the second-most in a season by a Louisville player over the last seven seasons. Guerra notched 16 goals in 29 matches in two years with the Cardinals, averaging better than a point per match in a Louisville uniform. Both players were selected during the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, with Jones going 47^th overall to Real Salt Lake and Guerra picked 69^th by Portland Timbers.

Dealing with the challenges of playing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hayden's second season saw the Cardinals post a 5-8-1 overall mark split across the fall and spring semesters. Battling a bevy of injuries, UofL went just 1-6-1 during the fall portion of the season, but rebounded in the spring and posted a 4-2-0 record and finished second in the ACC Atlantic Division. The Cardinals capped off the spring season with a 2-1 victory over No. 1 Clemson in the regular season finale.
