2011-2012 Academic Highlights

Athletic Director's Honor Roll: 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester.
- Fall 2011: 318 of 539 student-athletes
- Spring 2012: 329 of 514 student-athletes
These totals are record numbers.
246 student-athletes were named to the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, honoring those with a minimum 3.0 GPA for the academic year.
230 student-athletes (290 including spirit squads and managers) were named Red and Black Scholar Athletes (3.25 cumulative GPA or better). These totals are new highs.
14 of 19 teams had a 3.0 or higher in the Fall 2011 semester. For the first time in the fall semester, we had a combined GPA of all sports above a 3.0. (3.048)
17 of 19 teams had a 3.0 or higher in the Spring 2012 semester. The combined GPA of all sports for the spring semester was 3.110, the highest semester GPA ever.
7 teams had record numbers on the AD Honor Roll for a single semester including Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Men's Golf, Women's Swim and Dive, and Softball.
Women's Golf earned the highest GPA for 2011 Fall and 2012 Spring semesters.
Seven UofL student-athletes earned BIG EAST Conference Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Awards, the most from any single institution in the league. Cardinals who attained the honor for their respective sport are Peyton Siva, men's basketball; Brendon Andrews, men's swimming and diving; Austin Berry, men's soccer; Victoria Collins, softball; Chinwe Okoro, women's track and field; Katie Oliverio, women's lacrosse; and Hayley Turner, field hockey.
Men's basketball earned the 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest men's basketball team GPA in the conference
Men's basketball student-athletes Kyle Kuric and Peyton Siva were named to the Capital One District 2 Academic All-District 2 men's basketball first team.
The men's basketball team had four student-athletes earn National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court accolades.
Track and field's Holly Knight was named to both the Capital One Academic All-American team and the Capital One Academic All-District teams.
The women's cross country team was recognized as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team for the third-straight year.
The men's cross country team has been recognized for its academic achievement, earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic status.
Both the men's and women's track & field teams were tabbed U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association All-Academic recipients. Nine individuals were also named to the All-Academic Team.
The field hockey team was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Team Award list. Additionally, eight players were named to the NFHCA National Academic squad.
Placekicker Chris Philpott has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Team and was also named to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society.
Twenty-two student-athletes from the Louisville football team were named to the 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team.
For the 12th consecutive season, the women's soccer team was honored for its effort in the classroom as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America named the Cardinals to its College Team Academic Award list.
Six rowers were selected as National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. The 2012 season marks the sixth straight year the Cardinals have had at least five rowers earn CRCA National Scholar-Athlete accolades.
Eighteen members of the swimming and diving teams were named to the College Swimming Coaches of America Association's 2012 Individual Scholar All-America list. Four swimmers were named Scholar All-Americans and fourteen were named Honorable Mention.
Ten student-athletes were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars.
Caitlin Beck (women's soccer) and Jimmy Crick (men's soccer) were named outstanding senior student-athletes at the Red and Black Banquet.
Jimmy Crick (men's soccer) and Chinwe Okoro (women's track & field) were selected as recipients of the Cardinal Postgraduate Scholarships.
The men's indoor track and women's golf teams were honored with a Division I Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition award by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Seven U of L sports had a perfect 1000 score for the 2010-11 year in the APR, including men's basketball, men's cross country, field hockey, women's golf, women's rowing, softball and women's tennis.
