LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Louisville head women's basketball coach Jeff Walz is pleased to announce the addition of Brittany Morris as an assistant coach to his staff on Thursday. Morris joins the Cardinals after spending the previous four seasons at NC State as an assistant coach.
"Hiring Brittany Morris was a tremendous move for the University of Louisville," Walz said. "She brings a sharp basketball mind, a relentless work ethic, and a deep understanding of what it takes to build winning culture. Her time at NC State and other high-level programs has prepared her to make an immediate impact in every phase—recruiting, player development, and game strategy. Brittany's ability to connect with players and push them to maximize their potential is exactly what this program needs to maintain its elite status."
"More than just a coach, Brittany Morris is a culture-setter. She knows how to get the most out of her staff and athletes because she leads with authenticity and purpose. Her attention to detail, commitment to defense, and energy on the court fit perfectly with Louisville's brand of basketball. She's a rising star in the coaching world and landing her sends a strong message: Louisville is not just staying competitive—they're doubling down on excellence."
During her four years in Raleigh, the Wolfpack claimed three combined ACC regular season and tournament championships. In 2023, Morris helped the Wolfpack reach the Final Four for the first time in 25 years. In her first season in Raleigh, the Wolfpack won the regular season and tournament championship in the same year for the first time since 1984-85.
"I'm incredibly honored and excited to join the University of Louisville and be part of Coach Walz's staff," Morris said. "Coach Walz has established a rich tradition of excellence, and I'm eager to contribute to the continued success of the women's basketball program at the University of Louisville. Player development has always been at the heart of my coaching philosophy- helping young women grow as athletes, leaders, and people. I look forward to working with such a talented group of student-athletes and helping them grow both on and off the court".
Morris played a part in the development of guards Aziaha James, Saniya Rivers, Diamond Johnson and Zoe Brooks. Both Johnson and Rivers earned ACC Sixth Player of the Year awards during their careers. Rivers and James earned First Team All-ACC honors in 2023-24 while James earned a number of honorable mention All-American honors in 2024-25. The duo of Rivers and James were both selected in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Before going to NC State, she spent the 2020-21 season with East Carolina. Prior to her time at ECU, Morris was on the staff at UNCW for three seasons. She helped UNCW win 13 home games in 2018-19, which marked the most for the Seahawks since moving to Division I. Under Morris' tutelage, UNCW's Shrita Parker was named the USBWA National Player of the Week in January 2019 as well as being named Second-Team All-CAA following the 2018-19 campaign.
She took on the additional responsibility of recruiting coordinator during her last two years with the Seahawks, helping bring in a top-100 recruiting class in 2018 and signing the top-ranked class in the CAA each of those seasons.
Morris started her collegiate coaching career at Virginia Tech, serving as video coordinator for the 2014-15 campaign. Following her time at Virginia Tech, she was a graduate assistant at NC State for two seasons from 2015-17.
As a player, Morris was a four-year letterwinner for Seton Hall where she played from 2009-13. She started three seasons for the Pirates and led Seton Hall in scoring (13.6 ppg) during the 2012-13 campaign on her way to earning Second Team All-Big East honors.
A native of Raleigh, Morris earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from Seton Hall in 2013 and her master's degree in communications from NC State in 2017.
