Louisville Runs Past Morehead State, 96-49

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 21/19 Louisville women's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 ACC) offense was clicking in its 96-49 win over Morehead State (1-3) Wednesday night at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals scored a season-high 96 points and had all 11 players who entered the game score against the Eagles.
Louisville had seven players score in double figures, the most in a single game since November 16, 2023, against Bellarmine when eight players scored in double-figures. Four players tied for the team lead with 13 points in Laura Ziegler, Tajianna Roberts, Imari Berry and Reagan Bender. Bender's 13 points were a career best and she was 3-for-4 from three. Anaya Hardy led the way with a career-best 13 rebounds and 12 points for her first career double-double. Elif Istanbulluoglu tied a career high with 11 points.
Louisville had one of its most efficient quarters to begin the game against the Eagles. The Cardinals scored 29 points and shot 70.6% from the floor (12-for-17). It is the second highest shooting percentage in a quarter this season. Louisville went on a 13-0 run during the quarter and closed the quarter on a 10-0 run and took a 29-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
Louisville scored the first six points of the second and held Morehead scoreless for 3:38 to begin the frame. The Cards held the Eagles scoreless for a stretch of 6:17 between the two quarters and totaled a 16-0 run during that time. Istanbulluoglu reached double-digits in the second quarter as the Cardinals extended their lead. Bender hit a three to beat the buzzer and give the Cardinals a 50-22 lead into the half. It was the most points the Cards have scored in a first half this season.
In a game filled with runs, the Cards had another one to begin the third quarter. They scored the first 12 points in the second half. Berry had six of the 12 points for the Cards during the run. The Cards got into the bench in the third and had eight different players score in the quarter. The Cardinals were close to their season high in points at the end of the third as they took an 85-39 lead into the final frame.
Players got valuable minutes in the fourth as the Cardinals closed the door on the largest win of the season. The Cardinals finished the game 33-for-61 from the floor, their second game this season shooting 50 percent or better.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Battle for the Bluegrass on Saturday as the Kentucky Wildcats come to the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals and Wildcats will square off at 2 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast nationally on The CW.
