Olivia Cochran Named to McClain Award Watch List
October 31, 2024 | Women's Basketball
This is the fourth-straight season Cochran has been named to the watch list
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The preseason honors continue to come in for the Louisville Women's Basketball team as graduate forward Olivia Cochran was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Thursday. This is the fourth-straight season that Cochran has made it on the watch list and she is only one of two players to be on it in each of the last four seasons.
Cochran is the leading returner in multiple categories for the Cardinals this upcoming season. She has played in 14 career games at Louisville and is six games away from entering the Top-10 career games played list at Louisville. She has scored 1,259 career points, which ranks 18th all-time in school history. She eclipsed the 1,000 career points plateau last year becoming the 33rd player all-time in school history to score 1,000 points or more during their Louisville careers.
Last season, she started all 34 games and was second on the team and is the team's leading returning scorer with a career-best 10.8 points per game. She led the team last year in rebounds (6.6), steals (1.4) and blocks per game (0.6). She was on the Preseason All-ACC squad last year and was named to the Second Team All-ACC following the season. Cochran has started every game in each of the last two seasons and has started 94-straight games for the Cards heading into the 2024-25 season.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, November 1. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2025 Katrina McClain Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just 5.
In March, the five finalists will be presented to McClain and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Katrina McClain Award are composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
