No. 15 Cardinals Hit Road to Take On Pitt

Louisville is 2-0 to start ACC play this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 15 Louisville women's basketball team (13-2, 2-0 ACC) is back in action following their bye weekend and they are hitting the road to face one of their four double opponents during conference play. The Cardinals are heading to the Steel City to take on the Pitt Panthers (6-10, 0-3 ACC) in a midweek conference matchup. The Cards and Panthers will square off on Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m. ET and it will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
The last time the Cardinals were on the court, they defeated Duke 61-44 at the KFC Yum! Center on Jan. 4. With the win over the Blue Devils, the Cardinals became the 27th program in NCAA history to eclipse 1,000 wins all-time. The Cardinals are the fourth ACC program to achieve that feat and join Notre Dame, North Carolina and NC State. Heading into the game, Duke was fifth in the ACC in all-time wins with 995.
The defense was on full display in the win over the Blue Devils. The Cardinals held the Blue Devils to a season-low 44 points in the win. The previous low was 61 points against No. 1 South Carolina. The Cardinals turned the Blue Devils over at a high rate, forcing 27 turnovers last week. That was the most turnovers the Blue Devils had in a game since January of 2020. Louisville limited Duke to a season-low four points in the second quarter, the ninth time this season Louisville has held an opponent to single-digit points in a quarter.
Kiki Jefferson led the team with 15 points against Duke. It was the fourth time this season she has had the team-high in points and she has scored double figures in nine of the last 10 games. Jefferson also tallied two steals, her fourth game in a row with multiple steals. Olivia Cochran joined Jefferson in double figures with 13 points and a team-best six rebounds. It was the seventh-straight game in double figures for Cochran.

Pitt comes into Thursday's matchup with a 6-10 overall record and an 0-3 record in ACC play. The Panthers are led by Toni Verdi, in his first year at the helm at Pittsburgh. Verdi came to Pitt from UMass and was Sydney Taylor head coach for her four years in Amherst. The Panthers have one of the best scoring and rebounding threats in the conference this season in Liatu King. She leads the ACC and ranks sixth nationally with 324 points scored so far this season. She is fourth nationally and leads the ACC with 130 field goals made. She has nine double doubles this season, a mark that is second in the ACC and ninth nationally. King is second in the conference and 10th nationally with 160 rebounds this season.
Series History - This will be the 28th meeting all time between the two schools as the series dates back to the 2005-06 season, when the teams were in the BIG EAST Conference. Last Meeting (Jan. 8, 2023) - After a slow start to the first half by the Louisville women's basketball team, a dominant third quarter and a late fourth-quarter run helped propel the Cardinals to a 76-69 win over Pittsburgh this afternoon. The Cards outscored the Panthers 27-17 in the third quarter, after trailing by as many as 12 points in the second quarter. Louisville (13-5, 4-1) is 25-2 all-time against Pitt (7-9, 0-5), with a current 21-game winning streak in the series. Chrislyn Carr had a stellar performance with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the three-point line, including the go-ahead three-pointer to give the Cardinals the lead for good with 48 seconds to play. The five threes tied a season high and were the most by a Cardinal in a game this season. Norika Konno added a career-high tying 11 points as she shot 75 percent from beyond the arc this afternoon. Mykasa Robinson had two steals, marking the third straight game she has reached that mark and the seventh game this season she has recorded multiple steals.
