Robinson is recognized for her outstanding accomplishments as a student-athlete
Colorado Springs, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce Louisville graduate guard Mykasa Robinson as a 2023 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award recipient. This award recognizes Robinson's athletic accomplishments and her dedication to strength and conditioning. Nominated by Rhen Vail, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for women's basketball, Robinson's determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence is a great model for all student-athletes at Louisville.
"Mykasa Robinson embodies what it means to be a Louisville Cardinal - her heart, determination, grit and toughness on and off the court make her a coach's dream, a fan favorite, and a model student-athlete," said Vail. "An exercise science major and aspiring Strength and Conditioning Coach, there is no doubt in my mind Mykasa has what it takes to excel at the highest level in the field. Her leadership not only shows in the weight room on a daily basis but on the practice court, in the classroom, and within the community.
"Her dedication to the process and strong work ethic within the weight room have helped her in becoming the all time leader in games played at Louisville along with multiple All-ACC defensive team selections," stated Vail. "I could not think of a more deserving person for this award than Mykasa."
Robinson concluded her Louisville career last season and helped the Cardinals reach their fifth-straight Elite Elite, the only school in the country to make each of the last five Elite Eights. Not counting 2019-20 when COVID canceled the rest of the season, Robinson reached the Elite Eight or farther in each season she competed and a tournament was held. She set the program record for career games played this season and ended her career with 162 games played. Robinson also set the ACC record for most career conference wins (79) in both the women's and the men's game.
This past season for the Cardinals, Robinson set career highs with 6.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She led the team in steals and assists, finished second in rebounding and was fifth in points. She was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team for the third-straight season this year, the first player to be named in three straight seasons since 2017. Robinson also was one of three Cardinals to be named to the ACC First Team All-Tournament, the most of any school.
