Miguel Avendaño joins Louisville from Madrid, Spain
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rodrigo da Silva has announced that Miguel Avendaño has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2023.
"We are really excited to welcome Miguel to our team," said da Silva. "He comes from a well-respected family in the tennis world and has been around the highest level of tennis."
Avendaño, who hails from Madrid, Spain, has reached as high as No. 220 in the International Tennis Federation Junior Rankings. He brings an impressive singles resume with quarterfinal showings in the J2 Valencia (Spain), J3 Maaseik (Belgium) the J4 Majadahonda (Spain) and a runner-up finish in the J4 Estepona. Additionally, he won the Spanish Under-13 championship and reached the team finals in the Under-16 and Under-18 Championships.
In doubles, he has finished runner-up in the J2 Bruchkoebel (Germany) and reached the semifinals of several tournaments including: the J4 Estepona (Spain) and the quarterfinals of the J2 Benicarlo (Spain), and the J200 Hammamet (Tunisia).
"I chose Louisville, because it is a unique opportunity to carry on my progression as a tennis player due to the elite level tennis team and it offers fantastic academic education," said Avendaño. "But the main reason is because I got to know the coaches and liked them a lot."
