LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Damien Barker John's late heroics lifted the eighth-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Kansas City Monday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Louisville (7-2-1) netted three goals in the second half for its first come-from-behind win of the season.
The night started slow for the Cardinals, with Kansas City (2-4-4) holding a 1-0 edge through the first 45 minutes.
Louisville leveled the match quickly after the break though, as Quinton Elliot's long throw into the box was deflected into the net by a Kansas City defender for an own goal in the 52nd minute.
However, the Roos grabbed the one-goal advantage right back nine minutes later, finding the back of the net in the 61st minute to move back in front at 2-1.
UofL tied the match up again in the 70th minute. Elliot headed a ball from the left side that fell to the feet of Barker John in front of net and the sophomore tucked it away for his first tally of the night.
The Cardinals got seven more looks at the net over the next 15 minutes, including a Josh Jones header that hit off the crossbar, but the match remained tied at two.
Louisville took advantage of one last opportunity with less than two minutes to play. Brandon McManus and David Boccuzzo combined with Barker John with the latter rifling home his second goal of the night for the game-winning goal.
Barker John now has five goals in the last four matches, including braces in two of the last three.
Louisville finished with a 20-8 shot advantage on Monday night, including a 17-3 edge in the second half.
The Cardinals go on the road on Friday for a conference match at Clemson. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
