October 17, 2023 | Men's Soccer
Louisville picked up its second straight shutout victory on Tuesday.
ROCHESTER, Mich. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team put together an impressive road performance on Tuesday, notching a 4-0 win at Oakland.
It was the second straight shutout victory for Louisville (9-3-2) after a 1-0 clean sheet against Boston College on Friday.
The Cardinals struck for the opening goal in the 39th minute on Tuesday. Quinton Elliot's cross from the left side was deflected by a defender but fell to the feet of Parker Forbes. Forbes lofted a ball in front of goal and Damien Barker John got on the end of it to finish it off for the opening tally.
The goal marked the 11th time in 14 matches this season that the Cardinals have been the first side to get on the scoreboard.
The contest went to half with the 1-0 score, but the Cards quickly doubled their lead after the break.
David Boccuzzo played a ball forward from the right side to put Barker John, who sent a ground pass to Konstantinos Georgallides at the top of the box. Georgallides then teed up a right-footed shot that beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
The match remained 2-0 for much of the second half before the Cardinals tacked on two more goals in the final eight minutes.
Brandon McManus forced a turnover with a deflection in the 83rd minute, taking the turnover deep in the attacking end and playing a pass that set up Barker John in front of net for the easy tap in. It was the third multi-goal match of the year for Barker John, who continued his recent torrid goal-scoring pace with his team-leading seventh and eighth goals in the last eight matches.
McManus then became the beneficiary of a good pass three minutes later, with Elliot playing a through ball into the senior who was able to hit the back of the net for the second time on the season.
In total, Louisville outshot Oakland (5-7-2) 17-7 on the night. Meanwhile, Alex Svetanoff stopped all three Oakland shots on target for his sixth shutout of the season.
Next up for the Cards is the final road match of the regular season. Louisville will travel to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels on Sunday evening with kickoff set for 5 p.m. ET.
