Louisville's Eights had a strong first day of racing in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The University of Louisville rowing team had a win and a second place to sent two boats to the grand finals on the first day of racing at the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park.

The Cardinals' 2V8 boat finished second in their heat with a time of 6:42.78 and the V8 boat won with a time of 6:32.40. Both will advance to the grand final on Saturday.
Â
Louisville's V4 boat turned in a time of 7:40.01 and the 2V4 boat boarded an 8:02.23 and will head to the petite final on Saturday.
Â
The Cards are competing against Florida schools Central Florida, Miami, Stetson and Jacksonville. Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Northeastern, Tulsa and Drexel are also in the water in Sarasota.

Saturday's action begins at 8 a.m. with the petite final for the Varsity Eight.
