The Athletic tabs Hailey Van Lith as a second team Preseason All-American
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Louisville junior guard Hailey Van Lith earned second team Preseason All-American honors from The Athletic Wednesday morning. This is the third preseason award recognition Van Lith has garnered ahead of the upcoming 2022-23 season.
In the recent weeks, Van Lith was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List and the award recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. She was also named to the Preseason All-ACC for the second-straight season and the Cardinals were tabbed as league favorites heading into the year.
She is coming off a sophomore campaign where she guided the Cardinals to their fourth Final Four in program history. She was a catalyst in the NCAA Tournament run as she totaled four-straight 20+ point games to begin the tournament. She was the only player in the 2022 NCAA Tournament to have four 20+ point games and she was named the 2022 Wichita Regional Most Outstanding Player.
During the regular season, she led the Cardinals with 14.4 points per game and averaged 15.4 points per game in conference games, a mark that ranked sixth in the league. She reached double figures in 14 of 17 ACC games, including four 20-plus point performances and a 34-point game at Clemson en route to a spot on the first team All-ACC squad.
Van Lith and the Cardinals open the 2022-23 campaign at home on Monday, November 7 when they take on Cincinnati at 5 p.m. ET from the KFC Yum! Center.
