Fonseca Selected in Second Round of MLS SuperDraft

The senior was chosen with the 53rd overall pick.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville forward Pedro Fonseca was selected in the second round of the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Tuesday.
Fonseca was chosen with the 53rd overall pick by Real Salt Lake. He becomes the 26th student-athlete from Louisville chosen in the MLS SuperDraft all-time, giving the Cardinals 11 draft picks in the last six years. UofL has had at least one draft pick in 12 of the last 13 years.
Fonseca wrapped up a four-year career in a Louisville uniform during the fall. The Brazilian tallied eight goals, eight assists and 24 points in his final season, all of which were career highs. Fonseca ranked third in the ACC in assists, fifth in points and seventh in goals.
A two-time Louisville captain, Fonseca earned his second consecutive All-ACC selection during the fall and was an All-South Region pick as well.
Fonseca helped the Cardinals finish the 2021 season with a 10-7-1 overall record, capturing the program's first ever ACC Atlantic Division crown.
