Cardinals Place Nine Rowers on the ACC All-Academic Squad

The academic requirements for the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average. Athletic achievements are also considered.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Louisville placed nine rowers on the All-ACC Academic Team announced on Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference office.

Madeline Dodd, Michaela Dukes, Claudia Figueiredo, Ellee Grosser, Riley Kerber, Violette Legrand, Evey Peplowski, McKenzie Sweeney and Eliza Wack represented the Cardinals on the All-Academic Team. Â

Virginia's Sophia Kershner was been named the 2020-21 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kershner, a senior majoring in chemistry, helped lead the Cavaliers to their 11th consecutive ACC Championship. The Palmyra, Virginia, native was a member of Virginia's Varsity Eight, which earned ACC Crew of the Year.

A total of 15 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic honors team: Clemson's Cate Schrieber and Rachel Twitty, Duke's Tara Fagan, Sydney Johnson and Gabby Salvati, Louisville's McKenzie Sweeney, North Carolina's Lauren Ferner, Notre Dame's Marielle Corbett and Adelaide Lammers, Syracuse's Lucy Pearce and Megan Varcoe, and Virginia's Grace Comerford, Colette Glass, Katy Flynn and (Sophia) Kershner.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
