
No. 10 Louisville Plays at Cal Poly on Tuesday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – No. 10 University of Louisville women's basketball continues its west coast road swing when it plays at Cal Poly on Tuesday night. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. ET and broadcast on ESPN+ and 790-AM WKRD.

The Cardinals are 3-1 on the young season and are coming off a 61-53 win at Washington on Saturday. In the win over the Huskies, Kianna Smith and Liz Dixon led the way with 13 points each.

Emily Engstler helped the Cardinals go 3-0 in their last three games, averaging a team-high 13.3 points and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 62 percent from the floor and 6-of-7 from 3-point range. On the season, she is averaging 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in just 19.5 minutes per game.

Through four games, Louisville is limiting opponents to just 42.2 points per game, which ranks first in the ACC and third in the country. UofL is also holding opponents to 30.5 percent shooting, which ranks fourth in the ACC and 15th in the NCAA.

Hailey Van Lith, a native of Wenatchee, Wash., returned to her home state to play at Washington on Saturday, while Kianna Smith, a native of Moreno Valley, Calif., will get the opportunity to play at Cal Poly, where her father, John Smith, is the head men's basketball coach.

Kianna Smith played the first two years of her collegiate career at California. In high school, she was a McDonald's All-American while playing at Troy High School in Fullerton, Calif.

In the Cardinals first six games, they will play in four different time zones. They opened in Sioux Falls, S.D. against Arizona in the Central Time Zone, hosted Bellarmine and UT Martin in the Eastern Time Zone, and play at Washington and Cal Poly in the Pacific Time Zone and at Colorado State in Mountain Time Zone.

Cal Poly is 0-1 on the year with a 91-77 loss at Santa Clara nearly two weeks ago. Last season, the Mustangs finished 13-11 overall and 8-8 in Big West play, finishing in sixth place in the regular season conference standings. In the Big West Conference Tournament, the Mustangs beat Long Beach State 61-60 in the quarterfinals before falling to UC Irvine in the semifinals. They welcome back eight returners to this year's team, including junior guard Maddie Willett who was third on the team in scoring last season at 7.8 points per game and senior forward Kirsty Brown who was fourth on the team in scoring at 6.7 points and second in rebounding at 5.6 per game. The Mustangs are joined by eight newcomers that are comprised of six freshman and two Division I transfers in redshirt freshman guard Sarah Dumitrescu from Ole Miss and junior forward Julia Nielanca from San Francisco.
