An Update from Vince Tyra to Cardinal Fans
March 17, 2020 | General, Softball
(The following letter was sent today to University of Louisville fans)
Fellow Cards,
As a follow up to my message yesterday, we have new developments in this ever-fluid situation. Here are the latest developments involving our teams' events and competitions.
This morning the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced the official cancellation of ALL spring activities to include practice, competitions, championships and spring football practice through the end of the 2019-20 academic year. While the health and safety of our student-athletes, fans, and staff is paramount, we certainly share in this disappointment with you. All of our teams will be working hard in this now extended off-season to return to top form in the Fall.
Â
The past several days have provided unprecedented and historic developments with plenty of complex outcomes. Below is a broad summary of a few topline actions from the NCAA, the ACC and the University of Louisville.
Â
In response to the COVID-19 virus the NCAA:
1.   Cancelled all NCAA winter and spring sport championships, to include Men's and Women's Basketball tournaments.
2.   Suspended all on and off campus in-person recruiting through at least April 15.
3.   Acknowledged eligibility relief is appropriate for spring sport student-athletes with new legislation to come in the next two weeks.
In response to the COVID-19 virus the Atlantic Coast Conference:
1.   Cancelled the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.
2.   Cancelled all Atlantic Coast Conference Spring Sport Championships (Softball, Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Track & Field).
3.   Cancelled all spring sport activities to include games, practice, championships, etc. through the end of the 2019-20 academic year.
Â
In response to the COVID-19 virus the University of Louisville:
1.   Spring Break was extended through March 17. Classes will be delivered remotely starting March 18 through further notice.
2.   International and non-essential domestic travel are  suspended effective immediately.
3.   All events hosted by UofL or at a UofL facility will be postponed or cancelled through April 5 with no new events to be booked through April 30.
4.   UofL's campuses remain open but recommend employees work remotely, if eligible.
5.   Student housing remains open until further notice but students are encouraged to return home for the remainder of the semester.
6.   Food service will continue on campus but is limited to a "grab and go" process with no sit down dining option.
We are committed to ensuring every decision we make as a department is in the best interest of our student athletes. We know you, our most devoted fans, are in this with us and we truly appreciate your continued support of our beloved Louisville Cardinals. Please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns. The latest University of Louisville COVID-19 developments can be found by visiting uofl.me/Covid-19.
Let's do our part and be socially responsible to mitigate the spread of the virus. Be safe and take good care of yourselves and each other.
Louisville Cardinals: We rise as one.
