Cardinals Unable to Overcome Two Early USF Goals

Louisville drops first match of the season and is now 2-1-1 on the season
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team dropped a tough road contest at USF Monday night, September 9, as the Cardinals fell to the Bulls 2-0.

The Cardinals suffered a loss for the first time this season as their record now sits at 2-1-1.

South Florida scored twice in the first 19 minutes of the game. The Bulls got on the board in the 8th minute, before adding their second goal in the 19th minute.

The Cardinals had two scoring opportunities late in the first half as Elijah Amo and Cherif Dieye each put a shot on goal, but both were saved by the USF keeper.

Leonard Getz had the first scoring opportunity for the Cards in the second half, putting a shot on goal in the 55th minute. Louisville was forced to play a man down during the final 17 minutes when Izaiah Jennings was sent off with a red card.

Haji Abdikadir and Amo each put a shot on goal in the final seven minutes, but the Cardinals were unable to find the back of the net.

Jake Gelnovatch took the loss in goal, recording two saves. The UofL defense held the Bulls without a shot on goal in the second half.

Louisville wraps up its road trip and opens ACC play when the Cardinals travel to Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 13 for a 7:00 p.m. match. The game will be available on ACCNX.
