Louisville opens the tournament with 11 wins
The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up 11 wins on the first day of Notre Dame's Bobby Bayliss Invitational Friday.
"I'm very happy with how the guys competed today," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "They played very hard and showed a lot of passion. Most importantly, they played as a team. When one guy wasn't playing, he was always supporting his teammates. I thought it was a good first day."
Six different players posted singles wins for the Cardinals. Juan Paredes defeated Notre Dame's Conor Somers 6-3, 6-2 while fellow sophomore Marcus Sulen topped Michigan States Kazuki Matsuno 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Alex Wesbrooks also registered a straight-set victory with a 6-1, 6-4 decision against Wisconsin's Daniel Nuzhny. Freshman Matthew Fung bested Denver's Ignacio Crespo 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(3).
