Men's Tennis Edges Northwestern 4-2

The Cardinals have won five straight matches.
EVANSTON, Ill. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team extended their winning streak to five straight matches with a 4-2 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern's Combe Tennis Center, improving to 8-3 on the season.
The Wildcats gained the early advantage over the Cardinals in doubles action as Chris Ephron and Antonioni Fasano defeated George Hedley and Nicolas Rouanet 6-2 from the three spot. However, the 18th-ranked duo of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn countered with a 7-5 win over Dominik Stary and Ben Vandixhorn on court one. With the doubles point on the line, Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster secured a 7-5 victory over Nick Brookes and Michael Lorenzini at No. 2 to give Louisville the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles action, reigning ACC Co-Tennis Player of the Week Morin-Kougoucheff increased the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over No. 92 Fasano at No. 1.
Northwestern captured the next two points of the match with Stary's 7-5, 6-1 victory over Rouanet from the second position and Seidman's 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win over Hedley at the five spot, tying the score at 2-2.
The Cardinals answered with a comeback victory from Wynn, who defeated Brookes by a mark of 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. With the match coming down to the final two courts, Gomez clinched the victory for Louisville, recording a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 7-5 win over Vandixhorn from the No. 5.
When the match was decided, play was suspended on the final court. Lancaster defeated AJ Joshi 6-4 in the first set, but fell 4-6 in the second and was down 2-4 in the third set before the match was halted.
Up next, the Cards return home on Friday, March 2, welcoming ACC foe Virginia to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
